Leadership Winnipeg Unveils Tabletop Book

Winnipeg in Action book cover

June 17, 2011 - Vision and passion are the factors that drove them, but taking action didn't always make them popular, that was one of the findings of the Leadership Winnipeg class of 2010 in creating a tabletop book that profiles 40 Winnipeggers who are making a difference.

The book "Winnipeg in Action - A Profile of Community Leadership" was publicly unveiled at a book launch reception last night in the Observation Lounge of the James Armstrong Richardson International Airport.

Meeting and interviewing these community leaders was "inspiring, eye-opening and life-changing," said the 20 graduates of Leadership Winnipeg, a program offered by Volunteer Manitoba and The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce to shape tomorrow's leaders today.

The book, available at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2298872, was a class project to identify Winnipeg's community leaders, then interview them and write, edit and publish a book by the end of the 10-month program.

The book profiles such community leaders as Strini Reddy, Israel Idonije, Ace Burpee, Bob Silver, Gary Doer and many more.

University of Manitoba logo

The University of Manitoba has determined that Leadership Winnipeg, a program offered by The Chamber and Volunteer Manitoba, is eligible for 36 hours of elective credits toward the Human Resource Management Certificate Program or the Certificate in Management Program.

Leadership Winnipeg qualified for the credits because it is project-based and requires participants to do research, produce a final written document, develop their communication skills, participate in teamwork and hear from local CEOs on leadership.

Participants who graduated from Leadership Winnipeg in the past five years qualify for the credits. For further information, contact Wendy Stephenson at wstephenson@winnipeg-chamber.com or 944-3317.
